Holidays to Majorca* are all about having fun in the sun, so enjoying a day at one of the main waterparks is probably high on your holiday to-do list.

Here, we've shared everything from details on the big three to some of the smaller water parks situated within some of the island's hotels - a great option if you'd like to combine waterslides with your week away.

Western Water Park, Magaluf, Majorca

  • Tickets: entrance fees are based on age, ranging from €12 for three to four year olds to €30 for adults; save €3 by booking online in advance
  • Opening times: open daily between the end of May and September from 10.00am to 5.00pm, and 6.00pm in July and August

The park*, which is divided into three western-themed zones - Indian Town, El Paso and Western Land - has some real adrenaline-pumping rides from the likes Cola del Diablo to Tornado and the 15-metre high half-pipe slide, Boomerang.

There's also a Wild River and plenty of other cowboy-esque creations for adults to enjoy, while real adventurers can check out Majorca's tallest waterslide, The Beast, which plunges you 30 metres straight down.

A dedicated Kidzworld zone ensures no one misses out on the fun with mini-adventure playgrounds and splash areas for all.

Aqualand, Platja de Palma, S'Arenal

  • Tickets: a one day pass starts at €12 for three to four, €21 for five to 10 year olds, €30 for 11 year olds plus; save up to €3 when booking online, in advance - seasonal, family, group and couple tickets are also available
  • Opening times: open daily between mid-May and the end of September from 10.00am to 5.00pm, and 6.00pm in July and August

This particular waterpark is the largest in Majorca and separated into different zones categorised as Family Fun, Kidzworld, Chill Out & Play and Adrenaline Fun.

Experienced water park goers will find some familiar names amongst the adrenaline-fuelled rides at Aqualand: Black Hole and Anaconda, Tornado and Kamikaze, and a relatively new ride called King Cobra.

Elsewhere in the park the Congo River, Surf Beach, and Grand Canyon offer the kind of water-based fun you'd expect from a day out at Majorca's most varied waterpark.

  • Tickets: save €2 per ticket when you book online: prices are €23,50 for adults and €16,90 for everyone else, including seniors
  • Opening times: open daily between 1st May and 30th October from 10.00am to 5.00pm, and 6.00pm in July and August

This compact water park has more than just water slides and rides to entertain - there's also paintballing, golf, and floating water balls to enjoy plus the park's mascot is a parrot who is usually on hand to join in family photos.

Hidropark is right behind the beach and has a good selection of group water slides so you can race your friends and family, and as with the other water parks in Majorca, there is a dedicated children's area for smaller kids to splash about in.

Palma Aquarium

  • Tickets: for children aged three to 11, entry is €17 while adult entry is €28.50 when you book online in advance - family passes also available
  • Opening times: open daily all year round; during the peak season from April to October it's open 9.30am to 6.30pm with the last entry at 5.00pm

Ok, so it's not quite a water park - but it is water-based. Located in Playa de Palma, this may not be a way of getting into the water for the day but it is one of the highest-rated options in the Balearic Islands for learning what lurks beneath it, and combines some watery fun with some real hands-on education about the world under the sea.

Allow a few hours if not a whole day for your visit as there are plenty of different zones within this marine park, and the chance to see and interact with creatures from starfish and jellyfish to sharks and rays, and turtles and octopuses.

If you feel like splashing out, quite literally, you can arrange to dive in the deepest shark tank in Europe or even have a sleepover.

Booking tickets to water parks in Majorca can be an expensive business, so it's worth looking out for discount vouchers and online promotions.

In many cases, you can also buy group tickets, such as family or couple passes, but do look closely at the offers and read the small print. As for avoiding the queues, go early in the day, not to mention at the very start or end of the season.

As the weather in Majorca is consistently hot and sunny, especially during the summer months, always bring sunscreen, and remember that even the most water-resistant brand will require frequent reapplication.

Water shoes or jelly shoes are perfect for water parks in Majorca as the scorching heat of the day can make the ground hot, some parks sell them onsite too.

Water parks will usually allow you to bring your own picnic lunch, and this can be more cost-effective as well as more varied than the often underwhelming fast food options available at most water parks in Majorca.
