Ireland weather overview

The women of Ireland are famed for their dewy complexions, thanks largely to the soft rain which falls on their country all year round.

If you hate getting wet, head for Dublin or Cork in the east and south where the climate is somewhat drier, or time your Irish trip for May when the weather is warmest and sunniest.

The west coast is stunningly beautiful but you will spend some of your time peering at the magnificent coastline through a fog of cloud and mist.

In winter, the west falls prey to some ferocious storms while the whole of Ireland, in common with the UK mainland, can occasionally be afflicted by cold spells when northerly and easterly winds bring snow and frost.

What to pack for Ireland weather

Light clothes supplemented with warmer jackets are fine during the summer; wrap up more warmly in the winter months. Always take an umbrella - but think how good all that drizzle is for the skin!
