The major part of Poland consists of a flat, rolling plain but the country also has a Baltic coastline and mountain ranges to the south, so its weather varies according to the region. Winters are colder in the southeast, which holds the Carpathian mountain range.

The whole country sees snow in winter and this can lie for up to three months in the mountains. The mildest winters and coolest summers are to be found on the Baltic Coast. Summer temperatures throughout Poland are warm rather than hot.
