About Waterstones
Waterstones* is one of those special UK companies that reassures us with its presence, offering a comforting familiarity whether shopping in-store or online.
Launched in 1982 by the eponymous founder, Tim Waterstone, the company has grown to over 280 bookshops across the UK. The last remaining national bookshop chain, now part of the Daunt Books family, it prides itself on promoting authors of all experience levels as long as the quality is top-notch.
"Fill your house with stacks of books, in all the crannies and all the nooks." - Dr. Seuss
Books
The breadth of books available from Waterstones is simply staggering. Online you'll find more than 10,000 items with something for every discipline. There are guides to gardening, computing, photography and hobbies as well as books for all ages of children and educational texts for every stage.
Then there's the staple crime and thriller publications, plus culture, food, fashion, health, romance, sci-fi and so much more. To help you navigate its overwhelming stock, you can browse by category, of course, but also by handpicked recommendations and the likes of the ever-changing books of the month and bestsellers list.
Travel books & maps
You can travel the world ten times over with Waterstones extensive collection of travel books. Of course, there are countless destination guides* (region, country and city) guides by the likes of Lonely Planet, Rough Guides and Bradt Guides.
These are broken down further by geography - region, country, city - as well as by theme - such as food and drink and activities like walking, camping and hiking.
As well as the more traditional guides, you can also lose yourself in travel writing* with personal stories from the likes of Simon Reeve, Helen Attlee, Rory Stewart, Elizabeth Bowen, Levison Wood, Dervla Murphy, Bill Bryson and Michael Palin.
Then there's the multitude of other topics including maps*, travel tips and advice* and language phrasebooks*. Your imagination will be firing on all cylinders after a snoop around Waterstones travel section.
Books of the Month
Filtering Waterstones immense catalogue of publications by topic is one thing but once you arrive at your chosen subject area, there's likely to still be a helluva lot of titles to pick from. This is where Waterstones' Books of the Month can help.
Sticking to a specific monthly theme, a book is chosen from each category that best reflects this. For example, in March with Mother's Day occurring, Waterstones chose to focus on womanhood, with fiction, nonfiction, thriller and children's - among others - recommendations that all harnessed this idea.
Bestsellers
Doing exactly what it says on the tin, Waterstones' Bestsellers collection highlights those books which people just can't get enough of. From new releases to timeless reads, Bestsellers incorporates a little bit of everything and is a great place to start if you're unsure of precisely which book will scratch the need-to-read itch.
Books You Should Read
In a bid to help us all tick off the classics and headline hitting books we've never quite got round to reading, Waterstones created its Books You Should Read collection.
Here, you'll find all the big names you know but haven't perhaps managed to open the cover of, from the likes of George Orwell's Animal Farm and Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall to Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird and F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.
Meanwhile, in the Books You Should Read travel section*, you'll find inspiring tales including Che Guevara's The Motorcycle Diaries, Peter Frankopan's The Silk Roads and Joe Simpson's revered Touching The Void.
There's no better time to tick off some of those titles you've never read but whose pages you've always hoped you'd open one day.
