Somalia weather overview

Somalia lies within the Horn of Africa and, although its coast borders the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden, vast tracts of the country are desert. This gives it a hot, dry climate with unreliable rain. There is very little rain in the north and, elsewhere, what rain there is falls between May and November.

Coastal conditions are cooler in the east where the rainy season can bring fog and heavy cloud but, on the north coast, temperatures between April and September can be ferociously hot and this, combined with high humidity, brings a risk of heat exhaustion for the unwary.

What to pack for Somalia weather

Light clothing is appropriate throughout the year supplemented by slightly warmer attire for the eastern coast during the rainy season.
