The survey, which polled 2,000 people, found that issues such as risk, security and safety are lower down people's list of priorities when it comes to choosing where to go than what the weather is like and the cost.

While the weather came third with 63%, the type of destination came second with 65% of people and cost came top with 75% of those polled stating it as their main priority.

The charity also analysed the so-called 'Holiday Head', the notion that when people are away the everyday caution they experience diminishes in favour of trying new things. So much so that 76% of people said they were open to trying activities on holiday they would not attempt at home.
